Arash Mirbagheri, an Iranian cyclist participating in the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, hopes to return home with an award.
Mirbagheri is currently in Turkey, where he is training with the Spor Toto Cycling Team. Commenting on his preparation for the Asian Games, Mirbagheri told Tehran Times:
"I am in Turkey right now, and I have six competitions ahead of me before the Asian Games begin. Fortunately, this competition schedule will help me arrive in Nagoya in peak physical condition."
He continued that his competitions with the Spor Toto team will conclude 20 days before the start of the Games, after which he will return to Iran. These two weeks will allow him to focus on specialized training for the time trial and ensure full readiness for Nagoya.
Mirbagheri also noted that his Belgian coach is satisfied with his results, and he is confident in his ability to reach the podium and win a medal.
Furthermore, the athlete criticized the inadequate cycling infrastructure in Iran, pointing out that the track around the Azadi Sports Complex is unsuitable for training. He stated: "The track is uneven and has many potholes. Such conditions can damage our bikes and disrupt the training rhythm. Nevertheless, I will do everything possible to return home with a medal."
