Ahana Gautam founded a company with an 870 million rupee turnover after returning to India from the USA

Ahana Gautam has written an impressive success story, starting her journey in Bharatpur, earning a degree at IIT Bombay, followed by an MBA at Harvard, and building a successful corporate career in the USA. However, she decided to deviate from this path and pursue something new.

Gautam left a high-paying job in America, returned to India, and started her own business. She subsequently launched the snack brand Open Secret, which is now a large enterprise with a revenue of approximately 870 million rupees. Her story is not just about giving up a comfortable job, but about returning to India to build her own business, overcoming uncertainty, and defining success on her own terms.

Gautam's journey began in Bharatpur and led her to IIT Bombay, where she obtained a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. She then studied at Harvard Business School and subsequently built her corporate career in the United States of America.

Her educational and work experience gave her a deep understanding of marketing, management, and business. In the USA, she held a good corporate position with many opportunities for career growth. Nevertheless, Gautam ultimately decided to leave the USA, return to India, and start her own business.

When she decided to return to India, she was prepared for her plan B. The idea for Open Secret arose after Gautam observed Indian habits regarding snack consumption. She saw an opportunity to create healthy alternatives that do not compromise on taste. It was with this thought that the Open Secret brand was launched, aiming to change the Indian approach to everyday snacks.

However, turning this idea into a business proved difficult for her. She had to leave a stable corporate job and enter the uncertain world of entrepreneurship.

Returning to India meant starting afresh in many ways. Instead of following a set career path, Gautam had to build a consumer brand, develop products, hire a team, manage operations, and find customers. This decision came with a number of challenges. Starting a startup required dealing with failures, operational hurdles, hiring mistakes, and constant pressure to achieve success. But this was the path Gautam chose.

Over time, Open Secret expanded its range of snacks. The company gained recognition among people looking for alternatives to traditional packaged snacks. The company achieved a revenue of approximately 870 million rupees, which was a significant milestone in her business journey.

Before Independence Day, Gautam shared on an X post her decision to return to India. She noted that instead of an office in the USA where she wanted to work, she now manages an office in India. She also mentioned the difficulties associated with the business, such as delivery delays, incorrect staffing, and data errors. Nevertheless, she considers these complexities part of her choice. She wrote that every difficult day here is a day she chose instead of an easy day somewhere else. She addressed Indians living abroad, noting that now is a good time to participate in the country's development, and added that one does not necessarily have to go abroad to succeed.
