These findings appeared just before Apple's annual September event, which is likely to focus on the new iPhone lineup. The software also hints at the appearance of a foldable iPhone and new camera-equipped AirPods, confirming earlier reports about Apple's plans to go beyond standard iPhone updates this year.
Camera AirPods could arrive as early as September
The most obvious new direction is AirPods integrating cameras. The macOS 26.7 release candidate includes a video demonstrating how camera AirPods work in conjunction with Apple's Visual Intelligence feature. This clip was discovered by MacRumors analyst and published by them on X.
In the demonstration, a person holds a book in front of the AirPods. The camera captures the book, and Visual Intelligence uses the captured information to recognize it and save details. The video suggests that the cameras could allow the earbuds to understand the user's surroundings and transmit this information to Apple's AI-based functions.
MacRumors noted that the camera AirPods have an internal identifier B790. The report also mentioned that this identifier was previously linked to reports by Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, who suggested the product might launch as early as September. This would mean that the AirPods would appear simultaneously with the expected iPhone launch if the company decides to present them at the same event.
Foldable iPhone also appears in the software
The long-awaited foldable iPhone is another major product mentioned in the macOS code. MacRumors identified this device using the internal identifier V68, which they believe corresponds to the foldable iPhone. In the software references, the device is likely to be named iPhone Ultra.
The foldable iPhone has been part of Apple's product roadmap for 2026 for several months. It was anticipated that Apple would introduce its first foldable iPhone in September alongside the iPhone 18 Pro series.
