Reddford House Northcliff Presents 'The Lion King' Production for School's 10th Anniversary

Reddford House Northcliff is celebrating its decade with its most ambitious and large-scale theatrical project to date, presenting the beloved Disney production, 'The Lion King,' on stage from August 26th to 29th.

This production, featuring students from grades 1 through 12, serves as a school celebration dedicated to creativity, collaboration, and community. Audiences can expect memorable songs, vibrant choreography, spectacular costumes, and the timeless story of Simba's journey from a young cub to a king. 'The Lion King' explores themes such as family, friendship, resilience, responsibility, and hope.

Director Dylan Niemand considers this production a fitting way to mark this milestone. He noted that watching students from grade one to twelve unite to create something so large was incredibly rewarding. He emphasized that their dedication, passion, and talent were exceptional, and they eagerly await the opportunity to share the result with their families and the wider community.

Preparation for the show took months and involved vocal coaching, choreography, and character development. Beyond creating an engaging theatrical experience, the process itself helped students develop self-confidence, discipline, and teamwork skills, allowing them to build connections across different grades and levels of study.

The main cast includes Haalebale Shole-Mashao as Adult Simba, Kei Fumo as Young Nala, Khave Zikalala as Young Simba, and Daisy Futi as Adult Nala. They are joined by Khanisa Ngidi as Rafiki, James Keegan as Scar, Menzi Tshabalala as Mufasa, Abongwe Mofokeng as Timon, and Oliver Waldhausen as Pumbaa.

Ayanda Sigaba, Kemong Lelle, and Kabelo Mokoena play the roles of Shenzi, Banzai, and Kali, respectively. This production goes beyond a mere school performance; it celebrates a decade of educational and artistic achievements, as well as the students, families, and staff who have shaped the Reddford House Northcliff community.

Performances will take place in Dr. Ronel Burger's auditorium at Reddford House Northcliff in Johannesburg. A daytime performance for students only will be held on Wednesday, August 26th, followed by public shows starting at 6:30 PM from August 27th to 29th. The Saturday evening performance will be a special gala concert.

The production is suitable for the whole family and runs for approximately 120 minutes, including a 20-minute intermission. Doors open 30 minutes before each performance. Tickets are available on Quicket in the price range of R100 to R130.
