Scientists from the United States have demonstrated that mechanical action on the 1,2-dioxetane molecule, which is one of the key chemilumophores, leads to decomposition via a completely different mechanism than previously known.
According to quantum chemical calculations, under such influence, the usual rupture of the peroxide bond does not occur; instead, the bond between carbon atoms breaks first.
The results of this study were officially presented in the scientific journal Journal of the American Chemical Society.
