Vaginal wall fusion in elderly Swiss woman complicated uterine cancer diagnosis

Swiss medical specialists described a clinical case related to sclerotic atrophy lichen. This condition led to the fusion of the vaginal walls in an elderly woman who presented with complaints of abdominal pain and constipation.

The complete closure of the vaginal canal precluded the possibility of performing standard diagnostic methods, such as transvaginal ultrasound and examination using a gynecological speculum. Consequently, doctors required a diagnostic surgical operation.

During this operation, the uterus was removed, after which the diagnosis of endometrial carcinoma was established. This case was published in the BMJ Case Reports.
