Corbin Bosch embraces the revival of versatile players in Proteas, emphasizing the need for skill enhancement

Proteas has restored its reputation on the international stage thanks to high-caliber all-rounders specializing in seam bowling. Historically, the team featured players such as Brian McMillan, Jacques Callis, Shaun Pollock, and Lance Klusener, who could change the course of a match with both bat and ball.

However, at some point, this stream dried up, and Proteas was forced to find a way to combine the functions of two players into one to balance the squad.

Since the arrival of coach Shukri Conrad, there has been a conscious decision to once again develop all-rounders. This has paid off as Vian Mulder, Marco Jansen, and Corbin Bosch play a significant role in the Proteas lineup across all three formats.

Conrad further tested the depth of the squad by including young all-rounders Duane Jansen, Nkobani Mokoena, and Bosch's younger brother, Ethan, in the upcoming series of baseball matches in Namibia.

During the Advtech x CSA Sponsorship Launch event in Sandton, Corbin Bosch, Senuran Mutusami, CSA CEO Mr. Moseki, CSA Chairperson Ms. Mafose, Advtech Marketing Director Mr. Miller, Ayabonga Khaka, and Tazmin Brits were present.

Corbin had some time to rest before the Namibian series, but he intends to continue improving, understanding that he must remain at the top.

He noted: 'This is truly an exciting phase in South African cricket. I think the entire landscape—from SA20 and youth sports to franchise cricket—produces very high-quality cricketers.' He added that South Africa is known for its outstanding all-rounders, and it is pleasing to see people taking initiative and showing their best qualities.

Bosch believes that the players heading to Namibia have an excellent opportunity to demonstrate their skills at the international level. He stated: 'For me, it makes me constantly want to improve my skills and become better so that, again, when it comes to making the team list, you are one of the first.'

He emphasized that all-rounders are invaluable, especially in this country, and it requires the athlete to be the best they can be.

In the last eighteen months, Bosch has experienced a rapid rise, showing winning performances for Proteas. The 31-year-old player already has a five-wicket haul, made his debut Test century, and became a key player for Proteas in T20 matches.

He hopes these achievements will be enough to participate in the long-awaited series against Australia next month. Bosch noted that Australia is one of the best cricket teams in the world, and it is a great opportunity for them to measure up against a true champion team. He also shared a personal experience, recalling watching Test matches in Australia in his youth, and expressed hope that they can dominate the Australians at home.
