During this period, there is an increase in various diseases such as Dengue fever, malaria, swine flu, and typhoid fever. All these ailments can manifest symptoms ranging from high temperature and body aches to weakness with a cough in some patients. It is important to know what to do and what to avoid if such signs appear.
Professor Dr. Niraj Nishchal from the Department of Medicine at AIIMS Delhi provided recommendations on this matter. Dr. Niraj advises that upon the appearance of high fever, body aches, cough, or weakness, one must first rest, consume enough fluids, and consult a doctor. It is also recommended to conduct a preliminary temperature check at home. Paracetamol can be taken to reduce fever and alleviate pain.
However, if Dengue is suspected, aspirin, ibuprofen, and diclofenac should be avoided. With Dengue symptoms, any non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs must be avoided, as they can increase the risk of internal bleeding.
Dr. Niraj emphasizes that antibiotics should not be started without a specialist's prescription, as this can lead to negative consequences. He also warns that a reduction in temperature does not necessarily mean recovery from the illness. Especially in the case of Dengue, constant patient monitoring is necessary even after the fever subsides, and in such situations, medical consultation should be sought immediately. Patients at high risk should pay particular attention to this.
In Dengue, small children, the elderly, pregnant women, and patients with pre-existing serious illnesses pose an increased risk. If symptoms such as severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, bleeding, excessive weakness, restlessness, difficulty breathing, loss of consciousness, or very low urine output appear, immediate hospitalization is necessary.
Regarding influenza, the increased risk involves the elderly, young children, pregnant women, patients with heart and lung diseases, as well as individuals with diabetes and weakened immunity. If anyone experiences shortness of breath, low oxygen levels, chest pain, or excessive weakness, they should seek immediate medical attention.
