The job market situation is constantly changing. Companies are increasingly focusing on artificial intelligence tools, leading to mass layoffs, especially in the technical sector. For instance, one startup laid off its specialist just a month after hiring them.
A user with the nickname Less_Sir1465 shared this story on Reddit's r/DevelopersIndia subreddit. He stated that he works as a data engineer. After five years at his previous company, he decided to join a startup, but due to financial difficulties, the situation worsened in less than a month.
In his post, he specified that shortly after starting work, he was informed about changes in projects and clients, as well as budget shortages. As a result, he was laid off without projects and asked to submit a resignation. He noted that he is in shock.
Furthermore, these layoffs are not limited to India; they are happening globally. According to Layoffs.fyi, over 271 tech companies have cut more than 126 thousand jobs this year, and around 122 thousand technical positions were lost in 2025.
This technical specialist, who left stable employment after five years for a new company, faced dismissal shortly after starting. After being let go, the data engineer received compensation equivalent to about three months' salary. However, the main question now is whether he should return to his former company or look for a new job. He asked Reddit users for advice.
One Reddit user recounted a similar situation during the COVID-19 pandemic. He mentioned that after six months at a new company, his project was canceled due to the pandemic and downsizing. Following this, he returned to his previous company. According to this user, the company supported him because of his good performance, and those six months were recorded as skill development leave.
Another user expressed concern about facing a similar situation after changing jobs. He reported that his current job is quite stable, but moving to a new company could undermine that stability. A third user shared his dilemma: his current job is stable, while a late-stage startup is offering him a significant salary increase, but he is afraid to go there due to the increased risk associated with higher pay.
According to an Xpheno report on active technical vacancies, approximately 109 thousand technical jobs were available in August of this year. In March, this figure was around 119 thousand. Although about 93 thousand technical vacancies were available in June, the situation improved in August. Recently, a computer science graduate also stated that he could not find a new job despite sending over 700 applications.
