The campaign by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's government to transform Uttar Pradesh into the state's leading industrial and global investment hub will gain new momentum through economic partnership with Japan. As part of the 'UP–Japan Investment Meet 2026' event, which will take place in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi from August 18 to 23, over 200 major Japanese industrialists, CEOs, business representatives, and policymakers will participate.
The goal of the five-day investment conference, organized by Yogi's government, is to convert the business interest of Japanese companies into tangible investments, technology transfer, joint projects, and significant job creation. A high-level delegation from Japan will be led by Governor Kotaro Nagasaki of Yamanaishi Prefecture.
The delegation will explore opportunities in sectors such as manufacturing, clean and green energy, semiconductors, digital infrastructure, skill development, and tourism, attracting foreign direct investment to Uttar Pradesh. This event is considered important in the context of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's aspiration to make Uttar Pradesh a $1 trillion economy.
On August 18, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will meet the Japanese delegation in New Delhi. Following this, a five-day program aimed at promoting investment and technical cooperation between Uttar Pradesh and Japan will commence. The event, organized by Invest UP, will provide Japanese company representatives with an opportunity to interact directly with senior officials of the central and state governments, as well as with Indian business and educational institutions.
Sessions will be held in various cities, including Lucknow, Agra, Greater Noida, and Varanasi, in addition to Delhi, during the program. These sessions aim to translate potential in investment, joint ventures, and technological partnership into concrete projects. Yogi's government seeks to elevate Uttar Pradesh's economic partnership with Japan to a new level through this strategic link, focusing on advanced technologies, joint ventures, and employment.
On August 19, the opening and 'High-Level CEO Roundtable' will take place at the Taj Palace in New Delhi. Prominent figures such as the Minister of Railways, Information and Broadcasting, and the Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw, along with the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan, will attend this meeting. At this venue, top government and industry leadership will engage in in-depth discussions on new investment opportunities, modern technologies, industrial cooperation, and future strategies.
The main regional investment conference, 'UP–Japan Investment Meet,' is scheduled for August 21 at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Lucknow. The conference will feature Government-to-Business (G2B) and Business-to-Business (B2B) sessions to facilitate partner searches. A key feature of these sessions will be the ability for Japanese investors to engage in direct dialogue with state government representatives and Indian business groups, discussing potential projects, partnerships, investments, and their implementation in detail.
Senior representatives from many large Japanese companies associated with Japanese industry will attend the conference. These include JETRO, Escorts Kubota, Kubota Corporation Japan, Toshiba India, Matsushita Group, Setolas Asia, Honda Trading Corporation India, Daikin Airconditioning India, Sumitomo Corporation India, Spark Minda Toyo Denso, and Panasonic. Representatives of these companies will discuss expanding their operations and investment and technical cooperation opportunities in Uttar Pradesh.
One of the key highlights of the event will be the virtual groundbreaking ceremony for Escorts Kubota and Minda Corporation projects. This will demonstrate the progress in implementing investment projects in practice. Yogi's government intends to show that the state's investment attraction campaign is not limited to proposals but also places equal emphasis on project execution.
The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YIDA) in Uttar Pradesh is developing as a major center for Japanese manufacturing. In Sector-10 of YIDA, an Escorts Kubota project valued at 2025 crore rupees is proposed, where tractor equipment, construction machinery, and related goods will be manufactured. This project is expected to meet demand both domestically and for export, while creating over 3800 jobs.
