Airlink is expanding its codeshare partnership with Qatar Airways starting at the end of this month. The Airlink code will now be placed on flights operated by Qatar Airways between South Africa and Doha, and the Qatari capital will be featured as the airline's first long-haul route.
This expansion will allow Airlink to promote Doha as its first long-haul destination. Codeshare services will be available on Qatar Airways flights operating twice daily from Johannesburg, up to twice daily from Cape Town, and daily from Durban.
This cooperation is expected to develop in the coming months, including additional destinations within the Qatar Airways global network. Airlink CEO De Villiers Engelbrecht noted that codesharing is an important part of the airline's strategy to increase market reach and expand its network.
The new agreement supplements the 2022 arrangements, under which Qatar Airways previously placed its QR code on Airlink's domestic flights in South Africa and on several regional routes. Furthermore, it builds upon Qatar Airways' 25% minority stake in Airlink, acquired in 2024.
Qatar Airways stated that the expanded partnership strengthens its commitment to providing connectivity to South Africa. As of August 2026, the airline operates 194 weekly flights to 27 cities across 20 African countries.
The airlines have also strengthened their loyalty partnership, launched in early 2025. Members of the Airlink Skybucks program can earn and use Skybucks, while participants of the Qatar Airways Privilege Club can accumulate and spend Avios on flights operated by either airline.
The expanded codeshare will provide passengers with the opportunity to make further connections through the Qatar Airways global network via Hamad International Airport. Airlink announced that tickets for codeshare flights are now available for purchase through its sales channels and on the flyairlink.com website, starting August 31.
