Following protests in Jantar Mantar in Delhi and at the Jai Pal Singh Munda Stadium in Ranchi, the student movement has spread to Bihar. Since Tuesday, August 18, candidates for teacher recruitment (TRE-4) and other exam participants have started an indefinite hunger strike at the Dardani Bagh grounds in the capital, Patna.
This major protest, initiated by student movement leader Dilip Kumar, has a clear objective: the immediate publication of the TRE-4 announcement, or Education Minister Mitilesh Tiwari must resign.
The main demands include the immediate release of the BPSC TRE-4 notification, which must contain information on all subjects and a sufficient number of vacancies. They also demand that the examination be conducted in a single stage and the implementation of a 'one candidate—one result' policy.
Furthermore, they insist on the cancellation of counting contract staff in postponed BSSC exams (CGL-4, Intermediate Level, BSO) and the publication of the notice regarding librarian recruitment, which has been suspended for 18 years. Protesters also demand the prompt announcement of dates for other postponed vacancies (AEDO, Daroga, Sipahi, etc.) and assurance of transparency in conducting examinations.
Student leaders note that the Education Minister promised to publish the TRE-4 announcement in July, but this has not happened yet, leading to a loss of patience among activists.
Protesters have sent a clear warning to the government: if concrete steps are not taken within five days of the start of the hunger strike, a storming of the legislative assembly building will be organized. The hunger strike will continue at Dardani Bagh. Dilip Kumar stated that they are not demanding new vacancies, but merely want to advance already prolonged processes. He reiterated the demand: either publish the announcement, or the Education Minister must resign.
It is worth noting that this movement is not isolated. Bihar youth took to the streets following the success of the CJP protests in Jantar Mantar in Delhi and the JPSC-JSSC movement in Jharkhand. It is estimated that about 50 million candidates are affected by various examinations. Tomorrow, August 19, the RJD party also plans to hold a march to Lok Bhavan, which Tejashwi Yadav will attend.
The protests will also address issues of police action and leakage of examination materials. Dardani Bagh has become a new front for Bihar's youth. The question remains the same as in Delhi and Ranchi: when will there be transparency in the recruitment system, and when will the future of the youth be secured? The next few days will determine the government's reaction.
