According to the results of a randomized clinical trial conducted by American scientists, platelets stored at temperatures between 1 and 6 degrees Celsius for three weeks demonstrated comparable hemostatic efficacy to platelets stored at room temperature for five to seven days during cardiac surgeries.
No significant differences in the incidence of complications were found between the two patient groups during the study. However, the group receiving 'cold' platelets showed a higher frequency of needing repeat surgical interventions.
The data from this scientific study was officially published in The Journal of the American Medical Association.
