President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev inspected the activities of the branch of Liaoning Normal University and the Confucius Institute, which were opened in the city of Khiva. This new educational complex was created jointly by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, the state university Abu Rayhan Beruni Urgench, and Liaoning Normal University from China.
The government allocated 140 billion soums from the state budget for the construction and equipping of the complex. This project provided the creation of 120 jobs.
The complex includes academic buildings designed for 560 students, a library, a sports hall, a cultural palace with a capacity of 200 people, and a canteen for 118 places. A separate four-story building has classrooms for 628 students and a dormitory with 224 beds.
The admission quota for 2026 is set at 160 students. It is planned that the annual quota will be increased to 500 people in the future, and the total number of students will reach 2000.
Students will be able to study programs both in person and remotely, in Uzbek, Chinese, and English. Bachelor's programs cover International Education in Chinese, Tourism Management, International Business, and Artificial Intelligence. Master's programs include Teaching Chinese Language and Culture, Educational Management, and Artificial Intelligence and Educational Technologies.
The diploma issued at the branch will be directly recognized in Uzbekistan. Talented graduates will have the opportunity to continue their studies on scholarships at leading universities in China and undergo internships in Chinese organizations.
The establishment of this branch and the development of the Confucius Institute are also linked to the growing demand for specialists with knowledge of Chinese language and modern technologies. In the Khorezm region, 38 major projects involving Chinese investors are currently being implemented, with a total value of 2.343 billion US dollars. These projects require qualified personnel with modern technological skills and knowledge of the Chinese language.
Mirziyoyev emphasized the need to align educational programs with the needs of the economy and the labor market. He also highlighted the importance of creating conditions for students to deeply master modern technologies and foreign languages.
During the visit, the president was presented with a unified national tourism platform, as well as new opportunities and advantages for entrepreneurs working in the tourism sector.
