Former defender Thabo Ntete believes that the return of Pitso Mosimane as the head coach of the South African national team (Bafana Bafana) will mark a new era of success for the national team. Ntete stated in an exclusive interview with SportsBoom.co.za that given all of Mosimane's achievements, appointing someone of his caliber to advance the team is the right decision.
Mosimane previously led Bafana Bafana for the first time as an interim coach in 2007, before being appointed by Carlos Alberto Pereira. In 2010, after the FIFA World Cup, Mosimane, who was 46 years old at the time, received a permanent position, but his duties were terminated in 2012.
After his first spell with the national team, Mosimane moved to Mamelodi Sundowns as head coach, where he achieved significant success. By the time he left the club in 2020, the 'Brazilians' had won five league titles and the CAF Champions League trophy under his guidance.
In search of new professional challenges, Mosimane worked with well-known clubs in North Africa and the Middle East. After finishing his work with the Iranian club Esteghlal in 2025, his goal became replacing Hugo Broos after the FIFA World Cup, which occurred following the retirement of 74-year-old Broos from coaching.
Now, at the age of 62, Mosimane returns as an experienced tactician with a rich track record. Ntete added that Mosimane has accumulated vast experience since his first appearance, and he is confident that he will be very successful with the national team. He emphasized that coach Pitso thrives when he has enough time to work with players, and at the national level, the necessary resources are provided for opponent analysis and evaluating new talents in the squad. In Ntete's opinion, Mosimane is the right leader for Bafana.
