Oriant launches battery-operated ceiling fan; fan will keep running even during power cuts

In many Indian homes, power cuts are not limited to just the lack of light; during the summer season, when the power goes out, the fan stops, causing the room temperature to rise rapidly. Battery-backed fans are now available in the market. Oriant Electric has introduced a fan called Ecotech Volt BLDC Ceiling Fan that continues to operate even when the electricity goes out.

The main feature of this fan is that the battery is installed directly inside the fan. This means that in case of a power outage, there is no need for an external inverter or additional power backup. The company claims that this fan can provide continuous cooling for up to 10 hours after a power cut when used on Speed 1. The price of this fan is set at ₹4594 on the company's official website.

The rechargeable battery in the Ecotech Volt is integrated within the fan. When electricity is present, this battery keeps charging, and when the power goes out, the fan continues to run on the power of this internal battery. This feature can be particularly useful for homes where power cuts are a common problem. Additionally, in homes that already have an inverter, having an independent battery in the fan allows the inverter's energy to be saved for other essential appliances.

Oriant has used a 28W BLDC motor in this model. According to the company, it consumes up to 50 percent less electricity compared to fans with conventional induction motors. The fan is also equipped with a double ball-bearing system and is designed to withstand voltage fluctuations from 120V to 280V, making it usable even in areas where the power voltage is unstable.

Long-term backup during a power cut is important, but the battery life is equally significant. According to the company, the Ecotech Volt battery is built to maintain 80 percent of its health capacity even after 500 charge cycles. The fan comes with a 3-year warranty, while the battery is provided with a separate 1-year warranty. This fan will be available in Glacier Grey and White color options.

It is important to understand that the Ecotech Volt cannot be considered a complete replacement for an inverter for every home. This is because an inverter can run several appliances in a house, whereas this fan's battery will only function for the purpose of running the fan. However, if the biggest concern in a home during a power outage is the stopping of the fan, then this solution can prove quite effective, especially in hot climates where sleeping without a fan at night becomes difficult.
