Kaizer Chiefs legend Brian Baloyi expressed support for forward Hanisi Mayo, hoping that he can succeed this season and justify the trust of the club management who signed him on a permanent basis.
Last season, playing on loan from Algerian club CR Belouizdad, the 27-year-old striker had a difficult period at Naturena, scoring only two goals in the championship.
At the end of the season, Mayo was included in the long list of players put up for transfer to Chiefs, alongside players such as Ashley du Prez, George Matlu, Fiakre Ntvari, Gaston Cirino, Ethosa Igodaro, Happy Mashiane, Samkelo Zwane, Paseka Mako, and Tashrik Morris. Most of these stars have since moved to other clubs and started the current season with new teams.
However, Mayo was signed permanently for an undisclosed fee and term. Overall, the 33 goals scored by Chiefs in the championship could not compensate for their respectable defensive statistics, allowing them to concede only 19 goals, which was the second-best record after Orlando Pirates with 12 conceded.
In an exclusive interview as a Hollywoodbets ambassador, Baloyi stated: 'Before we start worrying about the forwards, looking at what we have, I hope Mayo improves his game, gets back into form, and becomes the Mayo we know from Cape Town City. I hope he achieves that level this season, especially now that he is no longer on loan but has moved to a permanent contract.'
He added: 'I hope he now feels that he is 'home', focuses, and understands the pressure that comes with playing for Kaizer Chiefs—and that he can handle that pressure.'
In the fight for starting positions, Mayo competes with Flavio Silva, Luke Bartman, Vandile Duba, and Ethosa Igodaro for a spot in the Amakhosi attack. Furthermore, Mayo can be used on the right flank, where players such as Langelihle Fili, Mfundu Vilakazi, and Mduduzi Shabalala operate. It should be noted that Mayo missed pre-season training due to injury.
