Consumers of domestic LPG have received encouraging news: customers who failed to complete their electronic identification (e-KYC) by August 16th have been granted an additional one-week extension. The deadline for LPG e-KYC has been extended until August 23rd.
However, numerous reports indicate that the e-KYC process is experiencing server malfunctions, causing difficulties for users, which necessitated the extension.
According to a report published in Business Today, the initial deadline for LPG e-KYC was set for August 16th. All gas service providers, including the Ministry of Oil, repeatedly warned about the mandatory nature of this procedure. The one-week extension was provided to alleviate the pressure caused by the original August 16th deadline. Nevertheless, dealers note that technical issues persist even within the new timeframe.
The report emphasizes that millions of LPG consumers attempting to undergo the authentication procedure using the required Aadhaar card for LPG e-KYC are encountering technical glitches. The process is complicated by multi-hour server outages and application malfunctions.
The combination of pressure from the initial August 16th deadline and technical failures in the applications led to long queues of customers at LPG dealer points. Consumers spent hours waiting, and even after this, they were not certain they could complete e-KYC before reaching the service counter.
Although the one-week extension was intended to ease the load created by the August 16th date, dealers assert that technical complexities remain unchanged within the new period. They explain that the entire e-KYC procedure operates on the digital infrastructure of oil companies, and when their servers fail or applications run slowly, nothing can be done, regardless of the number of staff at the counters or whether consumers possess the necessary documents.
The LPG e-KYC rule applies to domestic LPG consumers using Indane Gas, Bharat Gas, and HP Gas. Companies clearly stated in official communications sent to customers before August 16th that those who do not complete the e-KYC procedure may be ineligible to receive LPG cylinders under domestic tariffs until verification is complete. In simpler terms, the absence of LPG e-KYC will not lead to the immediate cancellation of the customer's gas connection, but it will create difficulties in obtaining a cylinder at the domestic price until the process is finished. They might potentially have to pay the commercial rate. However, it should be noted that consumers who have already completed this procedure do not need to repeat it.
