Ola Electric has announced a significant expansion of its energy storage system portfolio under the name 'Shakti'. These systems are designed to store energy during periods of surplus and subsequently use it when needed, whether for powering homes during outages or managing renewable energy at the grid level.
The unveiling of this expansion took place in observance of India's 80th Independence Day. Ola Shakti is built upon indigenous lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery technology and the company's vertically integrated capabilities in cell and system manufacturing. The company stated that the Ola Shakti architecture covers three distinct markets.
Product Details
For household needs, the company offers Shakti Gen2. The Shakti Rack system has been developed for the commercial sector and infrastructure, while Mahashakti is provided for industrial and municipal requirements. Bhavish Aggarwal, Chairman and Managing Director of Ola Electric, noted that the application of their battery and cell technologies will extend far beyond electric mobility.
He added that Ola Shakti extends innovations across all levels, from a private home to the entire power grid, helping India wisely store and utilize clean energy. He emphasized that this is a natural next step, enabling the utilization of their Gigafactory, domestic LFP cells, and nationwide network to provide reliable and affordable energy storage without a significant increase in capital expenditure.
The Shakti Gen2 system serves as the entry point for residential premises, integrating backup power, smart energy management, and solar energy storage into a single unit. The 4.6 kWh model has a starting price of ₹99,999, and the 9.2 kWh model costs ₹1,74,999. Either can be reserved for ₹999, with deliveries scheduled for November 2026.
For businesses, there are Shakti AC Rack and Shakti DC Rack models, which bring the same storage architecture to commercial applications. The AC Rack combines the battery and inverter into one system, whereas the DC Rack connects directly to compatible DC infrastructure. Both these systems are modular and are expected to go on sale starting March 2027.
The flagship product, Mahashakti, elevates Ola Shakti to the level of industrial and grid-scale storage. The Mahashakti Rack is designed to meet large commercial and industrial loads, while the 6.26 MWh Mahashakti container is designed for utility-scale projects. The architecture allows scaling from a single container up to gigawatt-scale energy storage installations.
Ola Electric announced that more detailed technical specifications, pricing for commercial and utility products, detailed performance data, warranty terms, and partnership updates will be provided later.
