Following a volatile week, the Indian stock market opened with negative indicators at the start of the trading period. Both market indices began trading in the red zone. The BSE Sensex index lost over 350 points, and the Nifty National Stock Exchange index also opened below the previous close.
During the initial trading session, there was a particularly sharp decline among technology stocks. Shares of companies such as TCS Share, HCL Tech Share, Infosys Share, as well as Indigo Share, HUL Share, and SBI, showed a decrease.
With the start of trading on Monday, the Sensex and Nifty indices declined, a trend that intensified as trading volume increased. The BSE Sensex opened at 77,892, which was lower than Friday's close of 78,009, and then continued to fall, reaching 77,579, losing 429 points. The situation with the NSE Nifty was similar: after opening in the red zone, the 50-stock index dropped by more than 100 points, reaching 24,259, compared to the previous close of 24,366.
During the red zone trading, as of the time of writing, 28 out of 30 large-cap BSE stocks showed a decline. The largest drop was recorded among IT and technology companies. These included TCS Share (down 1.60%), Indosys Share (down 1.55%), HCL Tech Share (down 1.45%), Tech Mahindra Share (down 1.20%), and Mphasis Share (down 3.10%).
In addition to IT technology, other stocks also experienced a downturn. In the midcap segment, shares of Voltas Share (2.60%), Phoenix Share (2%), Fortis Share (1.90%), and IDFC First Bank Share (1.20%) were declining. In the largecap category, declines were observed in HUL Share (1.40%), SBI Share (1.35%), and M&M Share (1.30%).
