Actor Manu Rishi Chadda is experiencing a difficult time after portraying General Parvez Musharraf in the film 'Operation White Sea,' which is based on the events of the Kargil War in 1999. Although his acting performance receives praise from viewers, he is also facing intense hatred.
Due to this controversial role, the actor has had to deal with a large number of hostile messages on social media and in his personal inbox. Viewers write that they want to hit Manu, yet at the same time admire his skill.
Manu jokingly asks people to refrain from physical violence, as it could become an unmanageable situation. Nevertheless, he believes that this hatred is a reflection of recognition for his work.
Navazuddin Siddiqui's consultation was very helpful for him in embodying such a complex and sensitive character. Manu admits that he initially expected the public would not accept him after this role.
Manu's main task was to portray a person full of contradictions and hatred. He tried to avoid simply copying video materials so that his performance would not appear fake. Meeting with Navazuddin Siddiqui over dinner eased his task.
When Manu asked Navazuddin Siddiqui about preparing for the 'Manto' role, Navaz advised working on the internal aspects and perspective of the person, even if they are flawed, if there isn't much reference material. By accepting this advice, Manu trusted his director's vision.
Manu emphasized that, being Indian, he could hate Musharraf, but as an artist, he was obliged to remain true to his character. After putting on the uniform on set, he completely identified with Pakistan and its mission.
During filming, to avoid immersing himself in this negative mentality, Manu tried to keep a slight distance from people. He mentioned that the beautiful landscapes of India often helped him get out of character. Actor Nasiruddin Shah always spoke about the need for 'switching on' and 'switching off,' something Manu deeply understood for the first time within the scope of this project.
