The Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts extensive rains, thunderstorms, and strong winds across many parts of the country until August 21. According to estimates, some states are expected to experience heavy or very heavy precipitation.
IMD has issued a warning for heavy rainfall and storms across 19 states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. Strong winds of 80 to 85 kilometers per hour are anticipated in these regions. Additionally, hail is possible in some states.
Previously, on August 17, IMD warned of rains and winds of 30–40 km/h in the Delhi-NCR region. The highest probability of precipitation is expected in the early morning, evening, or night. The maximum temperature is forecasted to be between 32 and 35 degrees Celsius. In Delhi-NCR, the maximum temperature dropped by approximately 5–6 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours, with the maximum temperature expected to fluctuate between 32–34 degrees Celsius.
According to the meteorological department, the primary cause of rainfall activity in Eastern India is a low-pressure area that formed in southeastern Jharkhand and its surroundings. This phenomenon may lead to heavy or very heavy rains in several places in Gangetic West Bengal, North Odisha, and Jharkhand over the next four days. Specifically, on August 17, extremely heavy rains are predicted in some areas of North Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal.
In the western Himalayan region and Uttar Pradesh, heavy or very heavy rains are also possible in the coming days. Rains are forecast to continue from August 17 to 21 in many areas of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Uttarakhand. Extensive rains are also expected in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. Heavy precipitation has already been recorded in many parts of the country.
A warning for heavy rains and storms has been issued for numerous cities in Uttar Pradesh, including Noida, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Aligarh, Agra, Mathura, Moradabad, Kanpur, Vareli, Hardoi, Sitapur, Shahjahanpur, Bijnor, Gonda, Basti, Bahraich, Lakhimur-Khiri, Pillibhit, Jotiba-Phule-Nagar, Pratapgarh, Mirzapur, Sonbhandr, Eta, Badayun, Jaunpur, Fatehpur, and Kannauj. Winds are expected to reach speeds of 70–75 km/h. The maximum temperature in Lucknow is forecasted to be 29°C with a minimum of 27°C.
In Bihar cities such as Gaya, Rohtas, Buxar, Bhojpur, Jahanabad, Munger, Banka, Jamui, Katihar, Balpur, Kamur, Nalanda, Nawada, Aurangabad, Vaishali, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Purnia, Arria, Kishanganj, and Lakhisarai, a warning for heavy rains and cyclones has been issued. A maximum temperature of 32°C and a minimum of 27°C is expected in Patna. In Jharkhand, in Hunti, Ranchi, East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Saraikela, Ramgarh, Hajharibagh, Giridih, Dumka, Latehar, Gumla, Simdega, Lohardaga, and Chhatra, a warning for heavy rains and cyclones has been issued, with strong winds of 50 km/h possible. In Ranchi, a maximum temperature of 29°C and a minimum of 23°C is forecasted for August 17.
A warning for rain and strong winds is in effect in Uttarakhand for Haridwar, Nainital, Chamoli, Almora, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Rishikesh, Tihri Garhwal, Champawat, and Pauri Garhwal. Winds are expected to reach speeds of 50–60 km/h. In Dehradun, the maximum temperature is forecasted to be 27°C and the minimum 23°C on August 17. In Himachal Pradesh, a warning for heavy rains and cyclones has been issued for Kangra, Shimla, Solan, Bilaspur, Sirmaur, Mandi, Chamba, Hamirpur, and Kinnaur. Winds of 40–45 km/h are possible here. In Manali, the maximum temperature is forecasted to be 17°C and the minimum 11°C on August 17.
A warning for heavy rains and cyclones has been issued in Jammu and Kashmir for Anantnag, Kathua, Poonch, Rajouri, Kulahgam, Kishtwar, Muzaffarabad, and Udhampur. Wind gusts of 50–55 km/h are possible. The maximum temperature in Srinagar is forecasted to be 31°C with a minimum of 21°C.
In West Bengal, the warning for heavy rains and cyclones extends to Paschim Medinipur, Bankura, Dadgram, Howrah, Kolkata, Durgapur, Malda, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, and Puria Bardhaman. Winds are expected to reach speeds of 60–65 km/h. The maximum temperature in Kolkata is forecasted to be 28°C with a minimum of 27°C.
In Punjab, a warning for heavy rains and cyclones has been issued for Pathankot, Firozpur, Hoshiarpur, Sangrur, Amritsar, Barnala, Nawanshahr, Jalandhar, Rupnagar, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Fazilka. Winds of 50–55 km/h are possible here.
