Student protests continue in Rachi over irregularities in examinations conducted by the Jharkhand State Civil Services Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC). The administration has reached out to activists to organize a meeting with government representatives.
Deputy District Magistrate Dhananjay Kumar visited the demonstration site and met with the protesting students. He informed them about an upcoming meeting scheduled for August 17th. SDM Dhananjay Kumar stated that the student delegation, along with their legal counsel, is invited to meet tomorrow at 2:00 PM.
He emphasized that this dialogue will take place not with low-level officials, but directly with government representatives. Kumar specified that the discussion will be held at the State Guest House, where government members will be present. Thus, discussions with ministers will take place tomorrow at the State Guest House.
The protesting students claim that the exams are being conducted late, and large-scale irregularities have been found in many sets. Applicants are continuously holding protests demanding an impartial investigation and transparency in the selection process.
Some students are participating in hunger strikes. Protesting student Prem Nayak, who is on a hunger strike, noted that today marks the 23rd day of the protest and the 13th day of the fast. He expressed doubt about the seriousness of the government's response, stating he is unsure how long he can sustain it. He also mentioned developing a fever, and although attempts were made to get him medical treatment, he refused. He added that Devendra Nat Mahto was taken away and is not allowed to return, as he believes this is an attempt to stop the movement.
Prem Nayak also mentioned that negotiations are underway regarding blocking the Chief Minister's residence, although nothing definitive has been decided yet. In his opinion, it would be better to conduct a 'movement involving prison cells' or close all schools and colleges.
