The stock market experienced significant turbulence over the last five trading days. Among the ten largest companies in the Sensex index, five incurred substantial losses, while investors in five others managed to profit from the market fluctuations.
The biggest blow was dealt to investors in Tata Group companies, particularly TCS, and Reliance Industries under Mukesh Ambani, whose combined assets exceeded 66,000 crore rupees in just five days.
Despite the volatility last week, both indices ended in the red. The BSE Sensex, comprising 30 stocks, fell by 490 points and closed on the last trading day of Friday at 78,009, a decrease of 71 points. Similarly, the NSE Nifty index of 50 stocks showed a drop of 205 points, concluding trading at 24,366, which is a decline of 30 points.
Among the companies that lost the most were TCS, Reliance, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, and SBI.
The market capitalization of TCS, one of the top 10 companies in the Sensex and belonging to the Tata Group, decreased to 8.53 lakh crore rupees over five trading days. Investors in this company lost 34,263 crore rupees. Parallel to the decline in TCS's capitalization, Reliance Industries also faced serious losses. RIL's market capitalization dropped to 17.70 lakh crore rupees, and investors in Mukesh Ambani's company lost 31,869 crore rupees.
Among the five companies that suffered large losses last week, besides Reliance and TCS, three banking institutions were included. The country's public sector bank, State Bank of India (SBI), saw its market value decline by 25,892 crore rupees, bringing it down to 9.86 lakh crore rupees. As for the private sector, HDFC Bank's market capitalization decreased by 7,165 crore rupees, amounting to 11.21 crore rupees. Furthermore, ICICI Bank's market capitalization fell by 2,793 crore rupees over five days, reaching 10.18 lakh crore rupees.
While investors in companies like Reliance and HDFC Bank incurred losses, investors in five other companies were able to make significant profits after strong fluctuations. LIC's market capitalization reached 5.23 lakh crore rupees, and its investors earned 26,438.49 crore rupees in five days. Bharti Airtel increased its market capitalization by 20,592 crore rupees, reaching 12.43 lakh crore rupees.
Additionally, Bajaj Finance increased its market capitalization by 3,549 crore rupees, reaching 6.77 lakh crore rupees, and L&T's value rose by 2,491 crore rupees, totaling 5.59 lakh crore rupees. Investors in HUL earned 2,079 crore rupees, and the company's value grew to 4.91 lakh crore rupees.
Despite the decline in Reliance Industries Mukesh Ambani's market capitalization last week, the company maintained the first place in the list of the country's largest companies by market value. It was followed by Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, SBI, TCS, Bajaj Finance, L&T, LIC, and HUL.
