The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojna program, launched by the government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, continues to attract more beneficiaries by offering 300 units of free electricity. During the summer heat, when air conditioners, fans, and refrigerators are actively used in homes, many citizens face the problem of high electricity bills. However, those who have installed solar panels on their home roofs under this government initiative can enjoy coolness without worrying about bills.
This government program not only provides free energy but also offers significant subsidies for the costs associated with installing solar panels, which vary depending on the capacity. Currently, over 510,000 homes across the country are illuminated thanks to this scheme, and the government's goal is to provide solar energy to 10 million households.
The central government has set different subsidy amounts for installing solar panels of various capacities. According to data from this government program, if solar panels with a capacity of 1-2 kW are installed, a subsidy of between 30,000 to 60,000 rupees can be received. For the installation of solar panels with a capacity of 3 kW or more, a subsidy of 78,000 rupees is provided.
It is important to note that the maximum subsidy set by the government is 78,000 rupees. This means that even when installing a panel of five kW or more, no additional financial assistance will be provided.
While the central government provides a maximum subsidy of 78,000 rupees for beneficiaries of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojna program, various state government bodies offer additional benefits to expand the program's reach. For example, in the state of Uttar Pradesh, when installing solar panels under the PM Surya Ghar Yojna, an additional subsidy of 30,000 rupees is provided for panels with a capacity of 3 kW or more. Thus, the total financial support increases to 108,000 rupees, reducing citizens' expenses and allowing them to benefit from free electricity.
Applications to participate in the PM Surya Ghar Free Bijli scheme can be submitted remotely through the official website https://pmsuryaghar.gov.in. After installing the solar panel, an application must be submitted for a net meter along with installation details. After the meter installation and verification by the DISCOM, a commissioning certificate will be issued. Upon receiving this certificate, the bank account details and a cancelled cheque must be provided to the portal for the subsidy to be transferred.
