Students in Ranchi protest alleged irregularities in JPSC-JSSC exams, call for demonstrations.

The student movement in Ranchi continues, now in its twentieth day, sparked by alleged irregularities in the JSSC-CGL examinations in the state of Jharkhand.

Due to the intensification of protests, security measures around the residence of Chief Minister Hemant Soren have been significantly strengthened. Massive barriers have been installed on both sides of a stretch of about 500 meters leading to the residence, giving the entire area the appearance of a fortress. Barricades are set up on multiple levels, starting from the main entrance to the residence and extending to the outer security zone.

There has also been an additional deployment of law enforcement forces. This step is presumed to be taken due to official concerns regarding a possible re-encirclement of the legislative assembly building or the head of government's residence by students.

Student organizations maintain a firm stance on their demands. Protesters assert that they will continue their actions until their demands are fully met. Students demand the cancellation of the JSSC-CGL exam, ensuring transparency in recruitment processes, and an investigation of the entire matter either by the CBI or a commission of retired judges not belonging to the state.

Various political parties and student unions are joining in support of this movement, gathering at the Jaypal Singh Munda stadium. Former Chief Minister Raghubar Das warned that if the demand for a CBI investigation is not met within a week, he himself will go on a hunger strike. Furthermore, the All India Students' Association (ABVP) has announced plans to hold protests in over 1200 universities across the country on this issue.

So far, six rounds of negotiations between the government and student representatives aimed at ending the protests have yielded no results. Chief Minister Hemant Soren stated that his government is committed to improving recruitment examination procedures and gave assurances regarding the cancellation of the JPSC fourteenth batch exam. However, students insist on a full investigation through the CBI. The head of the government accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to use this movement for political purposes.

It should be noted that the situation became even more tense during the legislative assembly march following clashes between students and police. Police used batons, tear gas, and water cannons to contain the demonstrators. Following this, the Bharatiya Janata Party called for a general shutdown.

Meanwhile, the leader of the student movement, Devendra Nath Mahto, who is hospitalized due to health issues, has requested permission to return to the protest site. He stated that even if his body is in the hospital, his spirit remains with the movement.

Student protests in Ranchi concerning various issues related to the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) are intensifying. Students who have been picketing for 13 days held a unique protest action on Thursday evening at the Jayaprakash Singh Stadium in Ranchi.

On Thursday evening, students marched across the stadium grounds and adjacent areas, using mobile phone flashlights. This demonstration filled the entire area with shouts and expressions of indignation. The protesters clearly conveyed to the government that their action was completely peaceful. Nevertheless, despite continuous protests for 13 days, the government has not provided any concrete solutions to their demands.

The students categorically stated that their movement will not cease until the government provides a written and satisfactory response to their requests.

Currently, there is uncertainty regarding planned high-level meetings between the students and the Jharkhand government. Although student representatives submitted the names of their members to the administration for negotiations, an official meeting between both sides did not take place by Thursday evening.

Sources report that if positive changes arise at the administrative level at the last moment, negotiations may take place overnight. Otherwise, it is highly likely that official talks between the government and student representatives will occur on Friday. The students remain firm on their demands, increasing pressure on the administration to find a solution quickly.
