The Bengaluru hotel is situated in the heart of the business district and incorporates over 1200 works of art into its design.
Interior views, featuring traditional Indian architectural elements like jali, harmonize with spectacular cityscapes and greenery. The combination of works by local and international artists demonstrates international quality standards while preserving the character of Indian cities. This unique blend of art and design delights visitors, pleases art connoisseurs, and is a feast for photographers. Public artworks are displayed across four floors and on the terrace.
The hotel also hosts a remarkable art tour led by Surekha Sundaram—an artist, curator, and art consultant. Based in Paris, she founded Maiden India Art and organizes exhibitions and art tours. Her research interest focuses on studying the evolution of social dynamics through India's artistic landscape, and her current work is dedicated to documenting and profiling the artistic practices of North Karnataka.
The art tour, launched this July, can last up to two and a half hours. Art interpreter Sundaram gently encourages viewers to describe what they see, reflect on their feelings, and speculate on the artists' motives and messages. The emphasis is placed less on art history and more on curiosity and dialogue. The tour proceeds at a comfortable pace, allowing guests to pause, slow down, and examine the details of the exhibited works more closely.
The overall impression left on visitors is one of inspiration, relaxation, and energy. The tour covers diverse genres and geographical areas, from realism to abstraction, from painting to installations. Sundaram told YourStory: 'Many people believe that special knowledge is required to appreciate art, but curiosity is often far more important than expertise. This tour was created to make engaging with art more accessible, encouraging dialogue, observation, and personal interpretation.'
Among the artists whose works are featured in this photo essay are Bose Krishnamachari, Parama Libralesso, Paresh Maiti, Robert St. Kroy, Idan Zareski, Lim Khim Kati, Manuel Carbonell, Arzan Hambatta, and Shola Carletti. A large diptych by Revati Sharma Singh, which the artist painted directly at the hotel, hangs in the double-height ballroom lobby.
Sundaram notes: 'Thanks to the impressive collection of 1200 works of art integrated throughout the property, the Ritz-Carlton in Bengaluru offers guests a rare opportunity to experience the hotel as a living, breathing art gallery.'
In addition to the art tour, the hotel offers a unique 'Art Hi-Tea.' This multi-sensory experience includes tasting 'edible art' during tea time. Participants can take a brush and use edible paints to create their own masterpiece on canvas, and then eat the canvas itself. Thus, tea becomes an art studio. This original collaborative effort is curated by multidisciplinary culinary artist Ishaan Kashyap and Executive Chef Saurabh Tiagi. As a result, edible canvases, paints, and pencils are used instead of traditional tableware.
Ultimately, this highly interactive, tactile experience creates a unique fusion of visual arts and experimental gastronomy. Guests cease to be passive observers and become active creators, using food as their medium to contemplate the rich contemporary art culture of the city.
During the walk, visitors also get acquainted with the grandeur of the hotel's architecture, designed by the global hospitality design firm WATG. The design draws inspiration from the nearby Lal Bagh Botanical Gardens, and the hotel's narrow profile is not perceived as a limitation. Founded in 1945, WATG has developed over 700 projects in 170 countries, operating in nine global offices. Elements of greenery, water, and even fire at night create a compelling combination in the Bengaluru project.
