Weather Forecast: Heavy Rains Expected in Uttar Pradesh on August 16, Impact to Last Until August 19

The monsoon is fully active in various parts of the country. The Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts moderate to heavy rains in several states of North, Central, East, Northeast, West, and South India on Tuesday. Very heavy rains, thunderstorms, squalls, and strong winds are expected in some areas.

According to the IMD, the monsoon trough line has shifted south of its usual position and intensified, leading to the possibility of heavy rainfall in many regions of the country. The southward shift of the trough line strengthens the monsoon winds, increasing precipitation in coastal and central areas.

Furthermore, a low-pressure area formed in central Madhya Pradesh and surrounding areas is affecting the weather in Central India. There is also a possibility that cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal may transform into a low-pressure area around August 12, which will lead to continued rains in eastern and central India in the coming days.

According to the meteorological department, rain is possible in several places in Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Punjab on August 11, with heavy rain forecasted in some areas. Sudden heavy downpours with thunderstorms are expected during the day. Cloudiness will persist in Delhi-NCR in the coming days, with numerous periods of light and moderate rain possible. Continuous periodic rain is also expected in the capital in the coming days, although despite the precipitation, temperature and humidity may remain high.

According to the Lucknow center, the monsoon will be active in many parts of Uttar Pradesh on August 11. There is a high probability of thunderstorms in some places in western Uttar Pradesh, and thunderstorms are also possible in eastern Uttar Pradesh. A warning for heavy, very heavy, and extremely heavy rainfall has been issued for various districts in eastern Rajasthan on August 11. In some parts of the state, rains may continue until August 13. Meanwhile, weather conditions are expected to improve in western Rajasthan from August 14.

In these districts, heavy rains could lead to flooding of low-lying areas and disruption of local movement. Residents, especially in districts like Jansi, Lalitpur, Mahoba, Hamirpur, and Jalaun, are advised to monitor weather conditions.

The probability of rain persists not only in Bundelkhand but also in Western Uttar Pradesh on August 11. The meteorological service predicts a high probability of rain and thunderstorms in some parts of Western UP. Similar activity is also expected in some parts of Eastern UP. Furthermore, the formation of another low-pressure area was predicted under the influence of a cyclonic circulation extending to the upper tropospheric layer over South Bengal and adjacent Bangladesh territory. Since this monsoon stream is moving in a northwest direction, an intensification of the monsoon flow is expected in the coming days, especially in the southern parts of the state. This is why an increase in rainfall activity is predicted in the southern districts of the state. The meteorological service also forecasts rain in several districts on August 11.

According to the meteorological service data, as of August 7, 2026, the total rainfall in Uttar Pradesh for this monsoon season was below normal. Eastern Uttar Pradesh recorded 325.6 mm of rain against a normal of 436.7 mm, representing a 25 percent decrease. Western Uttar Pradesh recorded 339.3 mm of rain against a normal of 370.3 mm, which is 8 percent below normal. Considering all of Uttar Pradesh, 331.3 mm of rain was recorded against a normal of 409.0 mm, indicating an overall decrease in monsoon rainfall in the state by 19 percent. This suggests that despite constant rain in some areas, the overall monsoon rainfall figure for the state remains below normal.
