Dorine Cherop, a Kenyan athlete, is aiming to secure a second title in the 10-kilometer Absa Run Your City race in Tshwane, which will take place next weekend. However, she does not consider the task easy.

Cherop is preparing to replicate her breakthrough in South Africa by participating in the Absa Run Your City Tshwane 10K race on Sunday next week. This race is part of the Absa Series.
Last month, the 22-year-old Kenyan athlete made a splash at the Absa Durban 10K race. She overtook favorite Brenda Jepchirchir in the final stages, finishing with a personal record of 30 minutes and 43 seconds.
Jepchirchir had led the race for a long time, striving to set a historic time under 30 minutes, but Cherop maintained her pace before launching an attack around the 7th kilometer. Ultimately, she used a powerful final sprint to pass her compatriot, who took second place with a time of 30 minutes and 52 seconds.
Cherop, who initially only hoped to make the podium, later admitted that even she was surprised by the victory. She stated: 'I did not expect to win. I was just aiming for a podium spot, and I ended up in a winning position. I think I won because I believed in my preparation.'
The triumph in Durban was Cherop's debut in an international 10K race and gave her valuable experience ahead of the upcoming challenging test in Tshwane. She will arrive as one of the main contenders but remains cautious regarding world-class competition, especially on an altitude course.
Cherop noted: 'It is nice to run with champions. I am still gaining experience in how to run 10K. So I just want to run my race and do my best.'
Stillwater Sports Director Michael Mayer expects Cherop's return to provide another exciting women's contest. He stated: 'Dorine's performance in Durban was a great introduction to the Absa Run Your City series, and we are excited to see what she can show on the challenging Tshwane course. We anticipate another thrilling battle for the podium in Tshwane.'
