Monsoon active in Bay of Bengal; Rain and storm warnings issued for several parts of the country

Due to monsoon activity in Uttar Pradesh, according to the meteorological service, rainy weather is expected in many districts of the state on August 15, Independence Day. According to the latest forecast, rain with thunderstorms is possible in various parts of Western and Eastern Uttar Pradesh, as well as the probability of heavy precipitation in both regions.

Special attention is paid to 19 districts where a high probability of heavy rains is forecasted. These include Bundelkhand, the Prayagraj-Mirzapur region, as well as many districts of Western Uttar Pradesh and Tarai. This may affect events held in honor of Independence Day. According to the meteorological service forecast for the period from 8:30 AM on August 15 to 8:30 AM on August 16, the 19 districts with a high probability of heavy rains include: Banda, Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, Prayagraj, Sonbhandr, Mirzapur, Lakhimur-Khiri, Saharanpur, Bijnor, Amroha, Muradabad, Rampur, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Sambal, Bariduan, Mahoba, and Lalitpur. Thus, the impact of the rain will not be limited to one area but will affect many places from Bundelkhand to Western Uttar Pradesh and Tarai.

Overall, the weather in Western Uttar Pradesh is expected to be more extensive in terms of precipitation. The meteorological service forecasts rain and short showers with thunderstorms in several places in Western Uttar Pradesh. Rain with thunderstorms is also possible in some places in Eastern Uttar Pradesh. This means that the weather will not be uniform across the entire state; in some places there may be heavy rain, while in others there may be a sudden downpour during relatively normal weather. IMD reports that there is a possibility of heavy rains in the state from August 13 to August 18. This is why the rainy season is expected to continue in different parts of Uttar Pradesh in the coming days.

In the forecast for August 15, Banda, Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, Mahoba, and Lalitpur have been added to the districts of Prayagraj, Sonbhandr, and Mirzapur, indicating a possible influence of rains in both Puanchal and Bundelkhand. Continuous periodic rain is also expected in the capital in the coming days, although despite the precipitation, temperature and humidity may remain high.

Since this monsoon stream is moving in a northwest direction, an intensification of the monsoon flow is expected in the coming days, especially in the southern parts of the state. This is why an increase in rainfall activity is predicted in the southern districts of the state. The meteorological service also forecasts rain in several districts on August 11.

According to the meteorological service data, as of August 7, 2026, the total rainfall in Uttar Pradesh for this monsoon season was below normal. Eastern Uttar Pradesh recorded 325.6 mm of rain against a normal of 436.7 mm, representing a 25 percent decrease. Western Uttar Pradesh recorded 339.3 mm of rain against a normal of 370.3 mm, which is 8 percent below normal. Considering all of Uttar Pradesh, 331.3 mm of rain was recorded against a normal of 409.0 mm, indicating an overall decrease in monsoon rainfall in the state by 19 percent. This suggests that despite constant rain in some areas, the overall monsoon rainfall figure for the state remains below normal.
