The legendary Uzbek boxer, known as the 'Tashkent Tiger,' has died at the age of 76. This was announced by the Uzbekistan Boxing Federation.
Rufat Risqiyev competed in the 75 kg weight category. He was a four-time USSR champion, recognized as the first world champion among Uzbek boxers in 1974, and won a silver medal at the 1976 Montreal Olympics.
After his athletic career, Risqiyev worked as a coach and referee. In recent years, he had been battling a serious illness. Notably, in 2016, his right leg was amputated due to thrombosis.
The Uzbekistan team achieved a historic result at the 38th International Informatics Olympiad (IOI 2026), which was held in Tashkent. Four members of the national team received awards: one gold and three bronze medals.
Jahonaly Khaydaraliyev, a 9th-grade student from Muhammad al-Khwarizmi School, won the gold medal. Bronze medals were won by Timur Kadirbergenov from the Presidential School in Nukus (11th grade), Ulugbek Rahmatullaev from the Presidential School in Namangan (11th grade), and Jahongirshoh Avazhonov from the Presidential School in Namangan (10th grade).
Additionally, Sardorbek Salimov, a student from the Presidential School in Navoi city, received the 'Honorary Recognition' award. According to the Ministry of Digital Technologies, this historic success is the result of targeted youth training over many years, the dedicated work of teachers, and the practical implementation of reforms in digital education aimed at supporting the country's talented youth.
The International Informatics Olympiad has been held since 1989. The first competition was organized in Bulgaria at the initiative of UNESCO. This year, Tashkent hosted the Olympiad for the first time, with 386 students participating from more than 97 countries.
A team of students from Uzbekistan successfully participated in the International Math Olympiad (IMC), which was held in Mughuliston. More than 600 talented students from 32 countries took part in this olympiad.
Representatives of Uzbekistan won a total of 20 medals: one gold, nine silver, and ten bronze.
In the Junior category, Dilbek Ziyadullaev, a student from Specialized Boarding School No. 1 in Karshi city, received a gold medal. Silver medals were awarded to Abdusamat Abdikomilov, a student of the Muhammad al-Khwarizmi named specialized school; Shamshodbek Jalolov; Shohjahon Abdilsattarov, a student of the Presidential School in Nurafshon city; Anvar Abduliev, a student of Specialized Boarding School No. 1 in Karshi city; as well as Shahriyor Khayitboyev, a student of the Sergeli district specialized school.
Bronze medals in this category were received by Ilyosbek Komiljonov, a student of School No. 219 in the Sergeli district of Tashkent city; Asrorbek Qobilov, a student of the Sergeli district specialized school; Shohjson Niyozaliev, a student of the Ohangaron city specialized boarding school; Jahongir Farhodov, a student of the Presidential School in Tashkent city; Behruzbek Ismoilov, a student of the Muhammad al-Khwarizmi named specialized school; and Ramziddin Rahmatillayev, a student of the Chiroqchi district specialized school.
In the Senior category, Umarbek Ubaydullaev, a student of the Sergeli district specialized school; Faizulloh Tohirov, a student of the Muhammad al-Khwarizmi named specialized school; and Ozodbek Sayakulov, a student of the Syrdarya region international school, were awarded silver medals.
Bronze medals in the senior category were awarded to Abdulaziz Rajabov, a student of the Muhammad al-Khwarizmi named specialized school; Komronbek Kamolov, a student of General Education School No. 35 in Bukhara city; Bakhtiyor Ostonov, a student of the Korak'ol district specialized boarding school in Bukhara province; and Odiljon Yoqubov, a student of Specialized Boarding School No. 1 in Karshi city.
