A 28-year-old woman was sentenced to six years in prison for killing her three-month-old daughter using a hairdryer.
Courtney Gartshore was accused of murdering her own daughter, an incident that occurred on September 30, 2023. According to the charge, quoted by The Mirror, the woman subjected the child to hot air from a hairdryer, directing it onto the baby's head and body in a home in Peterhead, Scotland.
Emergency medical services were called to the scene but could only confirm the death. An investigation was launched, after which the mother was arrested in November of the same year.
The girl had 18% of her body burned, and it was discovered that the woman had been consuming alcohol and drugs while alone with the infant that evening. In July of this year, Courtney Gartshore was found guilty of the murder of her daughter, and today she appeared to receive her sentence, which was six years in prison.
Following the sentencing, police inspector James Callander described the case as 'incredibly disturbing,' stating: 'Children are helpless and must be protected.'
