How to check milk for water

If the milk runs quickly and easily, leaving few traces, this may indicate a high water content. Conversely, thick milk flows slower and may leave white streaks.
Another method is boiling the milk, then cooling it down and observing the formed cream. Usually, the amount of cream depends on the fat content and quality of the milk. If the milk is very thin and little cream forms, this may indicate the addition of water. However, it should be noted that the amount of cream can decrease not only due to water but also due to the type of milk, its fat content, and the heating method.
There is also a test using a finger or palm, where a drop of milk is placed on the finger to check its density. Nevertheless, drawing definitive conclusions about the presence of water based solely on this method is incorrect. Milk density also depends on the content of fat and protein, so such home tests should be considered only as an indirect sign, not as conclusive proof.
