Twenty-year-old Lesedi Majoae, a student in the BCom Financial Accounting program at the University of the Western Cape (UWC), has created an application designed to assist the taxi industry in calculating daily revenue.
Majoae drew inspiration for his tech startup from a personal problem: discrepancies in accounting within his family's taxi fleet operations. Having grown up in an environment connected to the taxi sector, he personally observed the complexities of managing a business that handles large daily cash flows.
In the minibus taxi sector, verifying daily cash receipts presents a significant challenge for vehicle owners. Without an independent passenger counting system, owners often face revenue leakage when drivers underreport cash fares. This discrepancy frequently leads to monthly losses ranging from R8,000 to R14,000 per vehicle.
To solve this problem without violating standard industry practices, Majoae researched technological methods for transparent cash flow monitoring. This resulted in the creation of DriveCred, which equips taxis with AI-powered cameras to count passengers. The system utilizes computer vision technology to automatically track passengers upon boarding and alighting.
This initiative formed the basis for DriveCred—an innovative solution aimed at introducing financial transparency into South Africa's minibus taxi sector. Since route fares are fixed, passenger counting allows for an accurate calculation of expected taxi income. This provides owners with an independent, verifiable report to reconcile against drivers' cash reports, while maintaining the industry's traditional cash payment model but introducing vital accountability.
Owners can monitor operational metrics through a detailed dashboard or interact with Sello—a multilingual WhatsApp-based assistant that explains data in simple terms. The platform offers benefits beyond reducing revenue loss and preventing driver theft. By compiling continuous operational data, it builds a verified financial history for taxi operators, enabling them to demonstrate their commercial activities. Such documentation can simplify access to formal financial services, including loans, business credit, and fleet financing.
Creating a digital financial footprint opens significant economic opportunities for an industry long reliant on cash transactions. This progress merges Majoae's coursework in financial accounting with the core problem of his enterprise, allowing him to apply academic principles of financial systems and accountability directly to a familiar industry.
The development of DriveCred also prompted Majoae to reconsider his career expectations. Although entrepreneurship was part of the family atmosphere, he initially expected to pursue a traditional career path. Majoae noted: 'Even though we are business people, my parents or family always insisted: 'Get your degree and find a job'.' Like many young people, he previously envisioned his path around a stable salary. However, choosing the entrepreneurial route changed this perspective. He added: 'As an entrepreneur, I am beginning to understand that business is not really like a job where you get paid every month.'
According to Majoae, much of the effort in creating DriveCred happens behind the scenes. Measuring progress proved difficult without guaranteed monthly income or a tangible physical product. He stated: 'I don't have a real, tangible product.'
DriveCred gained recognition by placing first in the Enactus UWC Intra-Varsity competition and winning the Hult Prize UWC round to advance to the national final. The project's recognition expanded nationally when Majoae entered the MTN’s Top 30 Hustle Hub 2025 cohort, participated in an intensive mentorship program in Sandton, and secured funding. Continuing this momentum, the initiative recently received a cash prize at Startup Africa 2026. Furthermore, Majoae passed internal stages to qualify for the regional final of EDHE ABSA Entrepreneurship InnoVarsity 2026, scheduled for August 18–19, 2026. Beyond financial support and expert mentorship, these milestones integrated him into a broader startup network, accelerating the transformation of a problem identified in his family business into a viable solution for the minibus taxi sector. He concluded: 'I think you have to hold onto that belief and keep moving forward, day after day.'
For those looking for a high-quality tablet, this is an opportune moment to purchase one, as three featured options have been gathered on Amazon. Among them is the iPad launched in 2025, equipped with the A16 chip and accompanied by a compatible stylus pen, allowing the user to make the most of the device.
The Apple iPad (2025) features 128 GB of storage, Wi-Fi connectivity, and a silver finish. This 2025 model represents a notable advancement in the performance of Apple's entry-level line. It is considered a robust choice for users transitioning from Android as well as for those wishing to modernize an older device. The A16 chip ensures that tasks such as multitasking, using creative applications, and general content consumption occur smoothly.
In addition to the silver version, the same generation of the 2025 iPad with the A16 chip is also available in pink, offering a more personalized option without compromising performance. This pink model maintains the specifications of the silver one, including 128 GB of internal storage and Wi-Fi, preserving the lightness, agility of the Apple operating system, and the ability to function with peripherals like keyboards and stylus pens.
Additionally, there is the Universal Stylus Pen, which is compatible with both iPads and Android tablets. It features a fine 0.9mm tip, ideal for drawing, note-taking, and high-precision navigation. Charging is done via USB-C, and an LED battery indicator facilitates monitoring during daily use. A practical extra feature is magnetic attachment, which eliminates the need to charge the pen separately; it comes with two tips to ensure greater longevity.

The airline Latam disclosed the first internal images of its new Embraer E195-E2 aircraft at the end of July. These aircraft are scheduled to begin operations in the last quarter of 2026.
With a two-seat configuration on each side of the aisle (2-2), the new fleet features seats inspired by models typically used by European airlines. The interior will be divided between Economy and Premium Economy classes.
Each new plane will have a total of 136 seats. Of these, up to 20 are designated for the Premium Economy category, which offers greater comfort, including more legroom and a higher recline angle. Specifically, Premium Economy seats offer about 10 cm more distance between them compared to Economy, along with an increase of almost 25% in the inclination angle.
According to company information, onboard services will maintain the same standard as the aircraft already operating with Latam, ensuring a similar experience to that offered by the A320 family, used on domestic flights and to destinations in South America.
All seats are equipped with adjustable headrests and USB-C ports for charging electronic devices, in addition to tablet and mobile phone holders. Additionally, the cabin provides free access to satellite Wi-Fi for passengers registered in the Latam Pass program, which can be registered during the flight.
It is expected that the 14 new Latam aircraft will begin operating from November 2026 on domestic routes that will be progressively announced. Other lines will be introduced gradually in the subsequent months until the entire fleet is fully operational in March 2027.
The Embraer E195-E2 model will be used on established routes such as Guarulhos-Cascavel, Guarulhos-Uberaba, Guarulhos-Uberlândia, and Guarulhos-Palmas. Furthermore, new routes will be inaugurated departing from Guarulhos to Cabo Frio, Macaé, Rondonópolis, and Ji-Paraná. Other confirmed connections include Porto Alegre-Viracopos, Porto Alegre-Curitiba, Curitiba-Londrina, Curitiba-Cuiabá, and Brasília-Ribeirão Preto.
