Nissan conducted a test with the Qashqai e-Power model, managing to travel 1,980 kilometers using only one tank of fuel in Colombia. The journey started in Bogotá and concluded on the Caribbean coast without the SUV needing to be connected to any external charging source.
This achievement was monitored by Guinness World Records, setting a new benchmark for extended-range SUVs operating without external recharging. The performance of this e-Power system will be implemented in the 2027 Rogue Hybrid, which will be launched in the United States.
During the trip, the Qashqai achieved an average of 102 mpg under European standards, equivalent to 85 mpg in the US. To complete the entire distance, 14.5 gallons, approximately 55 liters, were consumed.
It is important to note that the route began at an altitude of about 2,600 meters and ended at sea level. The long descents aided the vehicle in energy recovery through the e-Pedal's regenerative braking, allowing some energy generated by gravity to return to the battery and contribute to the low recorded consumption.
The operation of e-Power differs from a traditional hybrid because the gasoline engine does not transfer power directly to the wheels; this function is always executed by the electric motor. The mechanical assembly integrates a 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbocharger, a 2 kWh battery, and a high-torque electric motor, with the combustion engine being used as an onboard generator.
Regarding the future, Nissan is developing an e-Power version for the 2027 Rogue Hybrid. This new model will feature a variable compression turbo engine designed to generate electricity with high efficiency, even at high speeds, aiming for a real consumption exceeding 40 mpg.
To solve a common challenge in this type of hybrid, such as engine noise, Nissan implemented sophisticated software. Since the engine is not mechanically linked to the wheels, its rotations could exhibit unnatural variations, but the software ensures that the speed and sound match the vehicle's velocity.
Furthermore, the system takes the surrounding environment into account. In sections with noisy pavement, the engine can operate without drawing much attention, while in quieter areas, it can be switched off when slowing down. Other manufacturers, such as Honda, Mazda, Ram, and Chinese producers, use similar configurations, but Nissan stands out by combining permanent electric drive with a variable compression engine and electronic management focused on approximating the driving experience of a conventional car.
Uzbekistan and the Philippines intend to intensify trade and economic cooperation.
