Following a demonstration by students of Sirondh Kanya Senior High School in the Vidisha district, a decision was made to lower the bus fare. Thanks to the protest held on August 12, students who commute daily from rural areas to school can now use the previous tariff.
During the protest action, which lasted about thirty minutes at the Sirondh bus station, the students expressed dissatisfaction with the increased fare. They argued that the fee increase creates an additional financial burden on their families and could negatively affect the education of many of them. During the demonstration, the students also chanted slogans, videos of which became widely discussed on social media and in the region.
The situation escalated, and SDM Om Narayan Badkul arrived at the scene. He spoke with the students and assured them that he would seek a solution with the carriers. Following the administration's initiative, the bus operators withdrew their initial decision and reduced the fare. This brought immediate relief to the students who travel daily from villages to Sirondh for their studies.
The SDM clearly stated that the convenience of the students was prioritized. He reported that after a meeting with the SDOP, Tehsildar, TI, and bus operators, it was decided to charge the old tariff to students attending the school. This step by the administration was the result of the fight the students waged for their rights.
Attention is now focused on whether this support will continue in the future and whether students on other routes will receive similar permanent fare benefits.
