According to a three-hour forecast released by IMD on August 14th at noon, the probability of rain between 8:30 AM and 11:30 AM on August 15th is up to 80%, with expected rainfall of four to six millimeters. There is also a 70% chance of similar amounts of precipitation in an earlier period, from 5:30 AM to 8:30 AM.
Since preparations for the event and guest arrivals take place during these hours, even light rain could affect the program's organization. The meteorological department emphasized that this refers not to prolonged heavy downpours, but primarily to very light or light rain and cloud cover.
After the morning period, the probability of precipitation remains in other parts of the day. From 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM, a 75% chance of rain of one to two millimeters is expected. Then, from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM, this probability decreases to 50%. By 5:30 PM, the probability decreases further to 25% between 5:30 PM and 8:30 PM. However, from 8:30 PM to 11:30 PM, a 70% chance of precipitation of three to four millimeters is again forecasted. Thus, the entire day promises to be active in terms of weather, but the intensity of precipitation should remain low.
Even more active weather is expected the day before the holiday, August 14th. According to IMD, in the Red Fort area, there is an 80% chance of precipitation of 10 to 15 millimeters between 1:00 PM and 5:30 PM, with a possibility of one episode of heavy rain during this interval. Light rain is also possible at night.
The Independence Day ceremony at the Red Fort is an event of national importance attended by many people. Even with light rain, there is a risk of water accumulation on the stage, flag hoisting area, and spectator stands.
