Nine women from the Bastar region, affected by Naxalite actions in the state of Chhattisgarh, experienced a completely different experience on the stage of Raipur. These women, who previously participated in an armed uprising, recently walked the runway in traditional handwoven products as part of an event for National Handloom Day.
This event is part of efforts aimed at helping surrendered Naxalites rebuild their lives.
During the sacred month of Sawan, women in Samastipur, Bihar, celebrated the Sawan festival with traditional enthusiasm and religious faith. A significant number of women, including representatives from the Marwari community and various social organizations, participated in the event held in the city hall. The entire ceremony was a unique blend of Sawan joy and devotion to Shiva, accompanied by green attire, mehndi, and swings.
The festival began with the distribution of traditional wedding trousseaus to married women. Following this, participants performed dances to Sawan songs, lending a festive and devotional ambiance to the atmosphere. Participants dressed in green sarees brought the significance of Sawan to life through their performances.
The program included cultural performances, folk songs, and dance competitions. Women collectively danced to traditional Sawan and Kajri songs, filling the atmosphere with merriment. Throughout the event, they prayed to the deity Bholenath for happiness, prosperity, and well-being for families, society, and the nation.
Mehndi, swings, and a fashion show were the main attractions of the festival. Women adorned their hands with mehndi and enjoyed traditional swings, sharing the joy of the festival to local Sawan songs. The entire program demonstrated a harmonious combination of religious faith and cultural elements.
During the event, women also took part in a fashion show, holding colorful umbrellas. Performances based on traditional costumes and the theme of Sawan attracted the attention of all attendees, while spectators supported the participants with applause.
The women emphasized the religious and cultural significance of Sawan, worshipping Bholenath and nature. Participants stated that this festival is not only a celebration but also a symbol of nature, love, and family harmony.
Minakshi Singh, who participated in the event, noted that Sawan is the most sacred time to immerse oneself in devotion to Lord Shiva. She added that all women gathered together with the aim of preserving love, harmony, and prosperity in families, similar to Shiva and Mother Parvati.
She stressed that Sawan represents not just a season, but a symbol of greenery, joy, celebration, and new hopes. She wished for the Sawan festival to be held in Samastipur every year, and for Bholenath's blessings to remain with everyone.
During the event, Pooja Bansal also presented songs dedicated to Sawan and Lord Shiva. Through her songs, she vividly painted the feelings associated with Sawan, devotion to Shiva, family adornments, and marital happiness. Her performance drew enthusiastic applause from the women.
Throughout the festival, women brought the cultural heritage of Sawan to life through dances, music, folk songs, and traditional activities. The event showcased a beautiful coordination of religious faith and social interaction. The women prayed to Bholenath for the preservation of happiness, prosperity, greenery, and well-being in all lives. This Sawan festival once again presented traditional folk culture and religious faith with renewed energy.
