Music streaming giant Spotify announced on Tuesday plans to release a new 'AI Persona' badge in mid-September. This badge will be used to clearly designate content that has been created using artificial intelligence rather than by real people.
The company noted that listeners have repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction when encountering artist profiles that appear human, only to find out that the persona was generated by AI.
This move is part of the Swedish company's efforts to increase transparency regarding the music creation process on its platform, amid growing concern in the music industry about AI-generated content beginning to overload streaming service catalogs.
Previously, in April, the company launched the 'Verified by Spotify' badge, which indicates that a profile has been verified and meets Spotify's authenticity standards. Now, in addition to artist profiles that identify themselves as 'AI Personas,' the company will begin applying corresponding badges to other profiles.
Spotify also stated that it will not include 'AI Personas' in editorial or personalized recommendations unless the user explicitly follows such an account.
