According to the latest forecast, rain with thunderstorms is possible in various parts of Western and Eastern Uttar Pradesh, as well as the probability of heavy precipitation in both regions.
Special attention is paid to 19 districts where a high probability of heavy rains is forecasted. These include Bundelkhand, the Prayagraj-Mirzapur region, as well as many districts of Western Uttar Pradesh and Tarai. This may affect events held in honor of Independence Day. The meteorological service also warns against thunderstorms and lightning.
According to the meteorological service forecast for the period from 8:30 AM on August 15 to 8:30 AM on August 16, the 19 districts with a high probability of heavy rains include: Banda, Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, Prayagraj, Sonbhandr, Mirzapur, Lakhimur-Khiri, Saharanpur, Bijnor, Amroha, Muradabad, Rampur, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Sambal, Bariduan, Mahoba, and Lalitpur. Thus, the impact of the rain will not be limited to one area but will affect many places from Bundelkhand to Western Uttar Pradesh and Tarai.
Overall, the weather in Western Uttar Pradesh is expected to be more extensive in terms of precipitation. The meteorological service forecasts rain and short showers with thunderstorms in several places in Western Uttar Pradesh. Rain with thunderstorms is also possible in some places in Eastern Uttar Pradesh. This means that the weather will not be uniform across the entire state; in some places there may be heavy rain, while in others there may be a sudden downpour during relatively normal weather. Therefore, even with light rain, it is crucial to avoid being in open areas, fields, under trees, or near electric poles.
According to the meteorological service, the increase in precipitation is related to the advancement of a low-pressure area in the Northern Bay of Bengal, changes in the position of the monsoon current, and increased regional monsoon activity. IMD reports that there is a possibility of heavy rains in the state from August 13 to August 18. This is why the rainy season is expected to continue in different parts of Uttar Pradesh in the coming days.
In the forecast for August 15, Banda, Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, Mahoba, and Lalitpur have been added to the districts of Prayagraj, Sonbhandr, and Mirzapur, indicating a possible influence of rains in both Puanchal and Bundelkhand. Monsoon activity is already observed in Prayagraj and surrounding areas, while in some districts of Bundelkhand, rains may suddenly intensify. Residents living near rivers, streams, and low-lying areas should exercise extra caution. Heavy rain is also expected in Western Uttar Pradesh, and the focus is not limited only to Eastern Uttar Pradesh. Districts associated with Western Uttar Pradesh and Tarai, such as Saharanpur, Bijnor, Amroha, Muradabad, Rampur, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Sambal, and Bariduan, are included in the heavy rain forecast for August 15.
The meteorological service advises people to exercise caution during heavy rains and thunderstorms. It is necessary to stay away from flooded areas in lowlands and avoid approaching seasonal rivers and streams. In case of a lightning threat, one should remain in a safe and sturdy place, avoiding open spaces and shelter under trees. Drivers are also advised to exercise increased vigilance, as the risk of accidents increases due to slippery roads and reduced visibility.
Rainfall may also affect agriculture. The meteorological service warns of potential crop damage due to field flooding during heavy rains. Farmers are advised to organize drainage for multiple crops, including sugarcane, rice, maize, arhar, peanuts, sesame, and vegetables. It is advisable to avoid unnecessary work in the fields during heavy rain and prepare drainage systems in advance.
With the increased monsoon activity, temperatures in Uttar Pradesh are also expected to start decreasing over the next five days.
