When considering purchasing a pump, the main dilemma is determining the required power in horsepower (HP). Experts advise selecting a pump based on the specific needs of the house. First, it is necessary to determine the water intake source and the final water delivery point to then decide on the optimal pump power.
A 1 HP pump is usually sufficient for one or two-story houses. It is suitable if the water does not need to be lifted from a great depth. This option works if the water tank is not located at a very high altitude, and the overall water pressure is acceptable.
A 1.5 HP model is considered a good choice for houses with two to three stories, provided the tank is at an appropriate height. For a two-story house, this is a safer and preferred option that will ensure good water pressure in taps and bathrooms.
In most cases, a 2 HP pump is excessive for houses with two to three stories. However, it is necessary if water needs to be lifted to a significant height or drawn from a great depth. If the matter concerns lifting water from a standard house tank, 2 HP will not be needed; in such a case, a 1.5 HP model is better suited for a two-to-three-story house.
Water pressure depends not only on the pump itself but also on the configuration of the pipeline system.
