Sixteen-year-old Iqbal from Murshidabad, West Bengal, spends most of his time in a pond, which has become his way of life for the past five years. He does this not by choice, but out of necessity, because when he gets out of the water, his body experiences an unbearable burning sensation. Because of this, he swims in the water for hours, sometimes spending five days, and sometimes an entire week in this state.
Iqbal himself attributes his condition to the influence of black magic, but the medical community does not share this view. The reason for his forced stay in the water lies in a specific disease that neither he nor anyone else knows about, and which has not yet been treated. However, a doctor has now provided complete information about the illness and its treatment methods.
During a conversation with Aajtak.in at the RDC hospital in Ghaziabad, senior doctor Professor Bijpal Tyagi stated that Iqbal was not affected by magic but suffers from a condition known as anhidrosis. This condition is characterized by the absence of sweating in one or more parts of the body. Usually, sweat helps the body dissipate heat and maintain coolness, but in its absence, the body overheats, which can be extremely dangerous and fatal.
Dr. Tyagi explained that due to anhidrosis, the skin always remains dry and does not feel cool. If the disease progresses in a severe form, sweating stops completely, and the body does not cool down, causing a constant burning sensation throughout the body. This corresponds to what Iqbal describes as an unbearable burning sensation.
According to Dr. Tyagi, when the burning occurs due to the anhidrosis disease, the heart rate increases. In such situations, bathing in water brings significant relief to the person. It is possible that when Iqbal first experienced symptoms, he took a bath, which brought him temporary relief, after which he began spending time in the pond to alleviate the burning. Over time, this became a habit, but it raises serious concerns as prolonged time in water increases the risk of developing many other diseases.
There are several causes for the development of this disease. In some people, it is present from birth, while in others, it develops later. In some patients, skin damage caused by conditions such as psoriasis leads to clogged pores. The disease can also arise from nerve damage caused by diabetes or Guillain-Barré syndrome. A special test is used for diagnosis, which may include a skin biopsy to check for nerve fiber damage.
Dr. BP announced his intention to treat Iqbal, and his team has already developed a complete diagnostic and treatment plan. Necessary examinations will be conducted in all departments of his hospital, and doctors will prescribe treatment according to individual needs. The entire treatment process will be completely free of charge. Dr. Tyagi reported that negotiations are underway with Iqbal's family, and they hope that he will soon be admitted to their RDC hospital to undergo a full course of treatment according to protocols related to his illness.
