The third generation of the Mazda CX-5 is now available in South Africa. This model features larger dimensions, an improved design, and modern cabin technology, while its pricing remains similar to the previous version.
The new CX-5 lineup starts from R578,250 and goes up to R749,100. It is worth noting that the previous version had a price range of R570,500 to R688,400.
Pricing for the New Mazda CX-5
Specific prices for different trims are as follows: the 2.5L Active FWD is priced at R578,250; the 2.5L Dynamic FWD is R636,000; the 2.5L Individual FWD is R717,000; and the flagship 2.5L Homura AWD will cost R749,100.
In the CX-5 market, it will compete with vehicles such as the Hyundai Tucson (from R559,900), Jetour T2 (R569,900), Ford Territory (R584,900), Nissan X-Trail (R599,900), Volkswagen Tiguan (R668,100), Subaru Forester (R699,000), and Toyota RAV4 (R770,500).
Although the design is a relatively soft evolution of its predecessor, the new model is significantly larger. The overall length has increased by 115 mm to reach 4,690 mm, and the width has increased by 15 mm. Most of this extra space is attributed to the wheelbase, which will positively affect the interior volume.
The CX-5 is equipped with Mazda's largest touchscreen. The company promises increased legroom, knee room, and headroom for passengers, and the trunk volume has increased from 438 to 466 liters. Flagship versions include a new panoramic sunroof and Mazda's largest touchscreen, which measures 15.5 inches.
Unlike most previous models that used a 2.0-liter engine, the new lineup is equipped with a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine. This engine produces 132 kW of power and 240 Nm of torque, representing an increase of 11 kW and 27 Nm. The engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, which provides front-wheel drive in the Active, Dynamic, and Individual variants, while all-wheel drive is used in the flagship Homura model.
A hybrid powertrain, available overseas, is also being considered for potential local implementation in the future.
