Defence Minister Rajesh Kumar announced during a briefing on Monday that for the first time, 'Vande Mataram' will be sung at the Red Fort celebration of Independence Day on August 15th before the tricolor is lowered and the national anthem is played. During the playing of the national anthem, over 27,000 guests, visitors, and students are expected to stand.
The floral decorations will present 'Vande Mataram,' with a total of 2,500 male and female cadets from NCC and My Bharat volunteers forming the 'Vande Mataram' composition on the Gyanpith opposite the parapet. An Indian Air Force Mi-17 helicopter will deliver a banner dedicated to the 150th anniversary of 'Vande Mataram' and shower flower petals on those gathered at the Red Fort.
NCC cadets and My Bharat volunteers will form 'Vande Mataram' on the ground. Furthermore, the 2026 Independence Day celebrations will highlight the achievements of youth in various fields. The accomplishments of 19 winners of international Olympiads in physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics in 2026 serve as an example of the Youth Power's success in science. These students have been invited to the event and will be seated on the parapet.
In the background, footage demonstrating India's progress in nuclear and space technologies will be shown, and the floral decorations in the Guard of Honour area will depict India's path to Viksit Bharat by 2047. Approximately 5,000 special guests, who represent achievements from various spheres of life and guide the country towards Viksit Bharat, have been invited to the ceremony.
