If you plan to start a small business, you can receive financial support from the government. The scheme launched by the Modi government for street vendors is called PM Svanidhi Yojana. Under this program, one can receive a loan of up to 90,000 rupees without any collateral, as well as a state-issued credit card with several additional benefits.
PM Svanidhi Yojana was launched in June 2020 and provided significant assistance to street vendors who lost their businesses during the coronavirus pandemic. This program will be active until March 31, 2030. The program quickly gained popularity, with the number of beneficiaries exceeding 75.5 lakh, and the total loan amount disbursed surpassing 17,800 crore rupees, covering over 1.12 crore borrowers. Furthermore, more than 55 lakh beneficiaries have been connected to digital systems. According to official data, beneficiaries have received approximately 800 crore rupees in the form of digital cashback and interest subsidies.
Under this government interest-free loan scheme, needy individuals are provided with financial assistance of 90 thousand rupees; previously, this amount was 80,000 rupees, which the government has increased by 10,000 rupees. The loan amount under PM Svanidhi Yojana is disbursed in three installments, which depend on the recipient's creditworthiness. That is, the second installment is provided after the repayment of one tranche, followed by the third. After the application is approved, an initial payment of 15,000 rupees is made, followed by 25,000 rupees, and the final installment is 50,000 rupees.
The government is not limited to providing an interest-free loan of 90,000 rupees; PM Svanidhi beneficiaries are also issued a Rupay credit card linked to UPI. However, certain rules apply for this: a beneficiary who timely repays the second loan installment receives a credit card with a limit of up to 30,000 rupees. Additionally, cashback is provided for retail and wholesale trade during digital payments.
To obtain the 90,000 rupee loan, which is provided by the government in three stages under PM Svanidhi Yojana, the applicant does not require extensive paperwork. To get this loan, one only needs an Aadhaar card. Thus, you need to take your Aadhaar card and apply for the loan. Another feature is that the received loan amount can be repaid through small monthly installments (EMI).
An application for PM Svanidhi Yojana can be submitted at any public bank. You need to take the program form, fill in the required information, and attach a copy of your Aadhaar Card, after which it should be submitted. After verifying the information provided by you to the bank, the loan approval is issued. It is worth noting that currently, women constitute 40 percent of the total beneficiaries of this government program.
