Audi has introduced its new flagship SUV, the Q9, which is currently the largest and most luxurious vehicle in the brand's lineup. The company, based in Ingolstadt, positions this vehicle as 'uncompromisingly prestigious' and aims it at competing with the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS models.
Q9 Specifications and Dimensions
The Q9 has a length of 5.31 meters, which is 238 mm longer than its junior sibling, the Q7, and exceeds the German competitor by 130 mm. The vehicle can accommodate up to seven passengers.
Business Class Interior
In addition to its dimensions, the Q9 features premium functions characteristic of the business class. These functions include individual electric seats in the second row, automatic doors, and the largest panoramic sunroof ever fitted to an Audi. The standard cabin configuration is designed for three rows and seven seats, but buyers can opt for a 2+2+2 layout with six power-adjustable seats.
Second-row passengers can utilize individually adjustable seats. The cabin offers a premium Bang & Olufsen audio system with 4D sound, which uses the 'Experiences' feature to synchronize with music rhythm and create an atmosphere of an 'authentic concert hall.' Furthermore, drivers can interact with the vehicle via Audi's virtual assistant, integrated with ChatGPT. The dashboard is equipped with a panoramic MMI display consisting of three screens.
Lighting and Driver Assistance Systems
The Audi Q9 incorporates several lighting innovations, including the world's first curved digital rear LED lights with customizable animated light signatures and an illuminated Singleframe grille. Top-tier models are also equipped with Matrix LED digital headlights, ground projection turn signals, communicative lighting with hazard warnings, exit alerts, and welcome light projection.
Among the extensive list of driver assistance functions is the Emergency Assist system. It is capable of stopping the vehicle on the roadside in a controlled manner if it detects that the driver has lost consciousness, while simultaneously activating hazard lights and automatically contacting emergency services.
Engines and Transmission
Currently confirmed engine is a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 diesel, available in 180 kW and 220 kW depending on the European market. The Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) technology provides an additional power boost of 18 kW. A range of gasoline engines is expected to be offered in markets outside of Europe.
In all variants, power is delivered to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission and Audi's quattro all-wheel drive system.
