Lisa Coppell, the wife of musician Danny K, passed away at the age of 41 after nearly three years of battling colorectal cancer. Danny K, whose real name is Daniel Coppell, announced that Lisa was diagnosed with the disease in November 2023.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Lisa's family noted that she fought with exceptional strength and determination. Along with her family, Lisa underwent treatment and utilized all available options both in South Africa and abroad, but it was not possible to save her.
The family expressed gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and medical staff who cared for Lisa throughout her illness, both in South Africa and overseas. Lisa preferred to keep her illness private and did not wish for pity, attention, or sympathy.
"Above all, she wanted to protect her children and preserve their happiness and innocence for as long as possible," stated her family. Despite the difficult moments, relatives described her as gentle, modest, and remarkably brave.

In a touching message, Danny emphasized that Lisa never sought pity, attention, or sympathy. He added: "Above all, she wanted to protect our children and preserve their happiness and innocence for as long as possible. Even in the most difficult moments, she remained gentle, modest, and remarkably brave, inspiring everyone who walked alongside her on this journey. We are deeply grateful to every doctor, nurse, and medical professional who cared for Lisa throughout her journey, both in South Africa and abroad."
Family's Call for Cancer Awareness
The family explained that they are sharing details of Lisa's diagnosis to raise awareness about colorectal cancer, especially given the rising number of cases among young people. They pointed out that traditionally, colorectal cancer screening was recommended from age 50, whereas international guidelines now advise regular screening from age 45 for people at average risk.
Furthermore, the family strongly urged people experiencing persistent symptoms to discuss them with a doctor and undergo proper examination. Lisa hoped to use her experience to raise awareness about colorectal cancer and help others through early diagnosis. However, as stated in the announcement, "She did not have the opportunity. Now her family will continue this goal in her honor."
Lisa left behind her husband Danny, three children, as well as family and friends who loved her dearly. The Coppell and Gundelfinger families requested prayers, compassion, and respect during this time of mourning. The family concluded: "Lisa's illness would never define her. She will be remembered for how she lived and loved: with kindness, humility, courage, and unwavering devotion to the people who meant everything to her."
