As part of the work of the 8th Departmental Committee, meetings with employee trade unions are ongoing. The committee is gathering information to understand workers' demands and prepare an appropriate report. During this time, the country's pensioners presented significant demands to the committee.
The organization Bharat Pensioners Samaj (BPS), representing about one million pensioners within the 8th Central Departmental Committee, proposed increasing the minimum pension, reviewing inflation indexing every three months, and eliminating discrepancies between the old and new pension systems.
This meeting between the committee and the representative organization took place on August 7. Among the demands put forward by BPS to the 8th Departmental Committee was an increase in the minimum pension to 45,000 rupees per month. Currently, the minimum basic pension under the 7th Departmental Committee is 9,000 rupees per month.
Furthermore, a request was made for the minimum basic wage to be increased to 69,000 rupees from the central government. It was also required to increase the fitment factor to 3.83, which is the basis for increasing wages and pensions.
In addition to the above, Bharat Pensioners Samaj demanded that the Dearness Allowance (DA) be increased every three months. Previously, DA and DR were increased twice a year, in January and July, but now they insist on increasing this indicator four times a year.
