According to the latest reports from Barclays and Hurun India, the combined valuation of India's ten wealthiest families reached 70.5 trillion rupees as of June 2026, an increase from the previous year's figure of 69 trillion rupees.
The Ambani family topped the list of India's most valuable families with a valuation of 25.8 trillion rupees. This amount is nearly three times the valuation of the Kumar Mangalam Birla family, which ranked second.
The total valuation of 300 family businesses amounted to $1.46 trillion, or 138 trillion rupees. The report also noted that the top three families collectively added $1.57 trillion to their capital over the last year, bringing their total worth to $444 billion, or 42 trillion rupees. Their combined value accounts for almost 9 percent of the country's market capitalization.
The threshold for inclusion in the top 10 increased by almost 14 percent over the year, reaching 2.5 trillion rupees.
It was also noted that Anil Agarwal, who manages the Vedanta group, rose three positions, securing sixth place after his valuation grew by 74.7 percent during the year. Family businesses based on software and services, such as the Nadar family of HCL Technologies and the Premji family of Wipro, dropped in the rankings, taking eighth and ninth places respectively, following a decline in their value of 38 percent and 2.3 percent.
Among the three richest first-generation families, the Adani family leads with a valuation of 19.57 trillion rupees. They are followed by the Sunil Bharti Mittal family of Bharti Airtel with a valuation of 12.1 trillion rupees, and the Dilip Shanghvi family of Sun Pharma has a value that is almost one-fifth of the Adani family's value—4.54 trillion rupees.
These 300 family groups add 4,076 crore rupees to their value daily over the past two years, increasing by almost 30 trillion rupees in 2024 and by 1.23 trillion rupees in the March 2025 release. These companies currently employ more than 5.4 million people and generate revenue of 56 trillion rupees. Furthermore, the report indicates that first-generation family businesses employ over 1 million people.
