Department of Space and ISRO launch recruitment for 746 vacancies, including scientist and engineer positions
The Department of Space (DoS) and ISRO have announced one of the largest recruitment drives in recent years. A total of 746 open positions among scientists, administrative staff, and interns were announced over the past week. Furthermore, at least 43 vacancies are being closed as part of addressing personnel shortages.
Administrative and technical vacancies
The largest volume of new recruitment is dedicated to filling 244 Level-4 administrative positions, which are distributed through the ISRO Central Recruitment Board (ICRB). These positions include 113 assistants, 81 junior personal assistants, 22 senior department clerks, 10 stenographers, 17 assistants for autonomous institutions, and one junior personal assistant for such an autonomous institution.
Distribution by specialization
By industry, the highest number of vacancies is in electronics—34 spots. This is followed by mechanical specialties (26), computer science (13), civil engineering (10), electrical engineering (4), refrigeration and air conditioning (2), architecture (2), and one civil engineer position at the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) in Ahmedabad.
Impact on Department staff
Despite the large-scale campaign, this recruitment is not expected to significantly affect the staffing of the DoS in the near future. Even excluding intern positions, the 336 permanent vacancies announced now account for less than 6% of the department's 5632 existing vacancies recorded earlier this year.
